Sensors used in smart phones

There are many sensors used in smart phones. To facilitates better user experience sensors are used in mobile phones.
Some of the sensors are- Proximity Sensor, Accelerometer and  Gyroscope, Light sensor, Digital Compass etc. 

Proximity Sensor 
It detects the presence of the object near to the phone. Placed near to the earpiece of the phone for a reason  that- when you place the handset up to your ear then it turn off the display. This saves battery life as well as prevents accidental screen touch.

Accelerometer and Gyroscope
A sensor that measure proper acceleration. It is used to detect the orientation of the handset.
An accelerometer measures movement of linear acceleration while on the other hand  Gyroscope measures movement of angular velocity.

Light sensor
The function of ambient light sensor is to adjust the display brightness. Ultimately it saves battery power  as well as life.
The sensor adjust brightness according to the intensity of  the light.

Digital Compass 
The function of compass is to give proper direction with respect to North pole and South pole of the earth.
